Trees are an essential part of a healthy, attractive community. Dead or damaged trees should be removed and replaced promptly because they can become safety hazards and leave noticeable gaps in the landscape.
Planting new trees in areas where they are missing is equally important. Trees provide shade, improve air quality, reduce wind and soil erosion and enhance the appearance and value of our neighbourhood. By replacing lost trees and planting in overlooked areas, Coral Springs is making a long-term investment in a greener, safer, and more welcoming community for future generations.
In collaboration with the City of Calgary Urban Forestry Team, your Coral Springs Community Association Board along with resident volunteers undertook a 2-year project funded by Ward 10 and were able to accomplish the following:
- Surveyed trees for over a six-month period resulting in 139 dead trees being replaced and 169 new trees being planted in the community. That is a total of 308 new trees in the Community.
- Approximated 200 free trees were handed out to residents in the community
- The new micro forest by Urban Forestry was planned for September this year and with the help of 30 volunteers, 200 trees were planted. See the location of the trees on the map below.
